Finding love in everything after a broken heart

When my 8 year old daughter Holly came to me with her artwork and words, they struck a deep chord in me. After I posted it on FB and saw how much it resonated with family and friends, I felt the need to reveal reasons that make such a simple statement so powerful.

How can love be in everything if there’s so much wrong and hate in the world?

I had a session with a client today that shows how deeply love, is in fact in everything. After a privileged life with a diplomat for a father and by the age of 20, 50 men twice and two and half times her age reported to her. This young lady was in charge of the infrastructure budget of multiple countries in the European Union.

Then a man came into her life and she fell in love and moved to another country for him. Several years of marriage later, she opened the front door to the house her husband supposedly owned – the person at the door was the landlord who she had never met before. From there, this lady would learn the truth of her husband’s lies as well as drug and sex addictions, cheating on her with multiple mistresses throughout their entire marriage.

This lady came to me with a deeply bruised heart. She found it hard to even breathe. Thankfully she chose to trust me, the only man apart form her father who was living on the other side of the world. After several weeks of coaching sessions, she came to a profound realisation. Her previous life was too privileged and she had no idea what struggling, self doubt and depression felt like until meeting the con man husband. By falling for a man that would deceive her and bring upon them financial ruin, she learned a lot about what insecurity does to people and how desperate they become for attention.

Learning the art of forgiveness without condoning his actions was the way this lady lost her anger and found love again, even in the corners of her world where her worst nightmares lived. To have seen the insecure and desperate man her ex husband was, she loved him again and wished him well as they went their separate paths. This lady now realises her ability to help heal broken hearts is her calling and she would not have been in this position to live her purpose if it had not been for the deceptive ways of her ex husband.

When we see things that appear ugly and wrong, let’s pause long enough to see what greatness comes from that space. Its’ only when we are at the depths of despair do we find ourselves connecting to capability. Capability that would never have been discovered if it had not been for the test. It’s only when we are in free fall do we discover our wings and experience the power of their purpose.

Can you share a hardship that deepened your love for life and created opportunities for you to live more of your purpose?
